2024 Report: Laos Plans Visa Exemption for Chinese Tour Groups

Archive: visa-policy plans reported on 25 June 2024

Historical policy news. This article describes plans reported in June 2024. It is not evidence of a current visa exemption, and it does not establish that an individual traveler can enter Laos without a visa.

On 25 June 2024, Xinhua reported that Laos was preparing visa-exemption measures for Chinese visitors traveling with travel agencies during the second half of Visit Laos Year 2024. The report cited Lao News Agency and Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Darany Phommavongsa.

The report also described proposals concerning multiple-entry visas and longer permitted visits. These were reported policy plans at that time, rather than a statement of eligibility for all visitors.

Check the rules for your own trip

Before departure, confirm requirements for your nationality, passport type, travel purpose and exact entry point with a Lao embassy or the relevant immigration authority. If applying for an eVisa, use the official Lao eVisa guidance to check its requirements and accepted entry points. A train ticket does not determine visa eligibility.
