Vientiane Railway Station is the capital’s main station on the Laos-China Railway. Travelers use it for routes toward Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang and northern Laos. Because Vientiane also has Khamsavath Railway Station, confirming the correct station is the most important step before arranging transport.
Vientiane Railway Station or Khamsavath?
Use Vientiane Railway Station for the Laos-China Railway corridor. Use Khamsavath Railway Station for conventional Thailand-facing services. The two stations are not interchangeable, and a driver or map result may require the full station name.

Getting to the station
The station is outside the central visitor area. Arrange a taxi, hotel transfer or other road transport and allow a margin for traffic. Share the complete station name with the driver and compare it with the booking confirmation before departure.
Arrival and onward transport
When arriving in Vientiane, confirm the final destination before accepting a pickup. A hotel, airport, bus station, Khamsavath Railway Station and central Vientiane are different transfers. Keep the address available offline in case mobile data is weak at the meeting point.
For a same-day connection, allow a realistic margin for leaving the station and crossing the city. There is no platform connection between Vientiane Railway Station and Khamsavath. If the itinerary continues south on the conventional railway, check the current operator instructions as well as the separate booking.
