2024 Report: Bangkok–Vientiane Train Service Launch

Archive: Bangkok–Khamsavath service in July 2024
Historical launch report. This article records the July 2024 introduction of the Bangkok–Vientiane (Khamsavath) service. It is not a current timetable or a promise of seat availability.
On 14 July 2024, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and State Railway of Thailand welcomed passengers arriving in Bangkok on a trial service from Vientiane. TAT’s announcement stated that regular Bangkok–Vientiane (Khamsavath) operations were scheduled to begin on 19 July 2024.
The launch announcement identified Rapid No. 133 for the Bangkok-to-Vientiane journey and No. 134 for the return. The Bangkok terminal was Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station; the Lao terminal was Vientiane (Khamsavath). The route extended the existing Bangkok–Nong Khai connection.
Choose the correct Vientiane station
Khamsavath is different from Vientiane Railway Station on the Laos–China Railway. Do not assume a Thailand-facing train and a Laos–China Railway train use the same station. Read the complete station names on each booking and plan any road transfer separately.
Check current departures and border requirements
Use the Bangkok–Laos train guide and Khamsavath station guide for planning. Confirm the actual travel date, departure time, arrival time, class and border documents before booking. The launch-period operating details in older reports should not be used as today’s timetable.
