Laos Train Tickets and Schedules: Booking and Route Guide

For Laos train tickets and schedules, start with the railway, route and travel date. The Laos-China Railway connects Vientiane, Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang and northern Laos; Thailand-facing conventional trains use a different station in Vientiane. Current search results and operator instructions take priority over an old timetable.
Choose the route and railway
Use the network overview to plan the journey. Common visitor routes include Vientiane to Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang. Search each leg separately for a multi-city trip.
Trains from Bangkok arrive at Khamsavath, while Laos-China Railway services use Vientiane Railway Station. A connection between the systems requires a road transfer and a separate onward booking.
Read the current timetable correctly
Check the direction, travel date, departure and arrival stations, train number and duration shown in the result. Different services can have different stops. For international journeys, compare the stated local times carefully because China and Laos use different time zones.
Do not make a tightly timed flight or tour connection using train running time alone. Include station checks, any border procedures and road transfers.
When tickets go on sale
Domestic release dates and available trains can change. Check LCR Ticket or a designated station counter for the dates currently being sold. An independent booking service may accept an earlier request, but that is not the same as an issued railway ticket.
The published 12306 rules for China–Laos international trains specify a 15-day sales period. The actual booking calendar and available trains determine what can be purchased. Use the correct channel for the departure country and follow the international collection instructions.
Compare the final payable fare
Compare the same date, direction, departure and class. Review the passenger count, currency and total, including charges shown before payment. A past US-dollar price is not a current fare quotation. For classes and seating questions, read the seat-class guide.
Prepare the passenger details
Use each passenger's booked travel document to complete the required fields and carry the original document to the station. Check names, numbers, route and date before payment. The booking checklist explains the difference between an order, payment confirmation and an issued ticket.
Domestic and international boarding are different
Read the ticket-specific instructions for a domestic journey. Do not assume that a payment receipt or a generic screenshot is a boarding ticket. For China–Laos cross-border travel, the current published international rules require a paper ticket and the original passport used for booking. Allow time for collection, security, customs and immigration.
A rail ticket does not grant entry to either country. Confirm the passenger's visa or exemption conditions through official authorities before travel.
Plan transfers and baggage
The main visitor stations are outside their central accommodation areas. Confirm the exact station, pickup point, number of bags and transfer price with the driver or hotel. The station-transfer guide helps coordinate the journey.
Baggage and restricted-item rules depend on the service. Ask the operator about oversized or specialist items before travel; a more expensive seat does not automatically establish a different allowance.
Sources and current travel information
Reviewed on 11 October 2026. The LCR Ticket operator app listing identifies the railway booking service. Use its current calendar or a designated station counter for domestic release dates. The 12306 China–Laos international passenger rules apply to cross-border journeys; they are not a substitute for domestic conditions.
